Playhouse Square screens classic films, hosts organ musicians

“The Princess Bride” opens the Cinema at the Square classic film series at Playhouse Square’s Connor Palace in Cleveland.

Fifteen films will be shown between today and Aug. 21 in 35mm film projection on a 20-foot-by-47-foot screen. Members of the Western Reserve Theatre Organ Society will perform on the theater’s restored 1928 Kimball organ before each film, and classic movie theater concessions will be available.

This year’s lineup includes:

Today — “The Princess Bride” (1987) at 7:30 p.m.

Friday — “Batman” (1989) at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday — “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (1937) at 2 p.m. and “The Godfather” at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday — “Independence Day” (1996) at 2 p.m.

Aug. 11 — “Goonies” (1985) at 7:30 p.m.

Aug. 12 — “Now, Voyager” (1942) at 7:30 p.m.

Aug. 13 — “Beauty and the Beast” (1991) at 2 p.m. and “The Bodyguard” (1991) at 7:30 p.m

Aug. 14 — “The Sound of Music” (1965) at 2 p.m.

Aug. 18 — “Men in Black” (1987) at 7:30 p.m.

Aug. 19 — “Paris Blues” (1961) at 7:30 p.m.

Aug. 20 — “The Parent Trap” (1961) at 2 p.m. and “Stand By Me” at 7:30 p.m.

Aug. 21 — “The Sandlot” (1993) at 2 p.m
