Stambaugh announces Sunday organ concert

Award-winning organist Joshua Stafford will play Stambaugh Auditorium’s E.M. Skinner Pipe Organ for a concert on Sunday.

Stafford was the Pierre S. du Pont first prize winner at the 2016 Longwood Gardens International Organ Competition. A recitalist, improviser and choral accompanist, Stafford has performed at such venues as the Wannamker Organ and Kimmell Center in Philadelphia, the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., and Spivey Hall in Georgia.

The Jamestown, N.Y., native studied at both the Curtis Institute of Music and the Yale School of Music. Many of his performances have been broadcast on Minnesota Public Radio’s “Pipedreams” and WRTI’s “Wanamaker Organ Hour.”

The concert is scheduled at 4 p.m. May 16 at Stambaugh, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown. In-person tickets range from $8 to $13 are are available at stambaughauditorium.com and by calling the Stambaugh box office between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. weekdays at 330-259-0555. The concert also will be livestreamed to Stambaugh’s Digital Concert Hall app.
