‘The Forest’ to become latest park problem

DEAR EDITOR:

Mill Creek MetroParks board and Aaron Young, MetroParks executive director, are using taxpayer money to try to take private property from Mahoning County residents. They have possession of McGuffey Preserve, but do not maintain it. They acquired more than 80 acres in Springfield Township and have not met the time frame in which it was to be completed.

“The Forest,” as it was named, encircles a strip mine lake with dropoffs that are beyond description. Township residents and others will now be able to leave their private land and head to the forest to play.

With country roads and low traffic, children are looking forward to riding their bicycles there. Will children also go there on dirt bikes, ATVs and snowmobiles?

Not to worry, children always make mature decisions, and the park police are on patrol. We can see their presence in the form of sawhorses on Springfield Road that read, “The public is not permitted beyond this point.”
