YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County Coroner’s Office has identified the man found in the grass at an apartment complex on Hickory Court on Youngstown’s East Side on May 4 as Tyrell Hodge, 26.

Hodge’s body was found in the 1500 block of Hickory Court, east of Albert Street after police were called there for a male who officers said had been stabbed multiple times.

He was pronounced dead later at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

Hodge was the city’s seventh homicide of the year.

A Youngstown police report stated that the man was found laying on his back near the playground between two apartment buildings.

A person at the scene told the police that the power had gone out, and he or she came outside to see if anyone else’s power had gone. That is when the person saw the male on the ground and gave assistance to him until officers arrived, according to the report.

Another person told police he or she was standing in the area when he or she “saw several people fighting. And then the next thing he knew, a male was on the ground.”
