Butler staff member earns OMA award

Joy Mistovich of the Butler Institute of American Art was named Emerging Museum Professional Of The Year by the Ohio Museums Association.

Mistovich is an education department assistant and digital UX accessibility specialist at the Youngstown museum and a certified professional in accessibility core competencies by the International Association of Accessibility Professionals.

Winners of the OMA’s awards of achievement and visual communication awards were recognized at its annual awards dinner, last month in Sandusky.

OMA Executive Director Johnna McEntee said in a statement, “OMA is proud to recognize Joy Mistovich as our 2023 Emerging Museum Professional of the Year, to celebrate her dedication and passion for museum and education work, her commitment to service to her community, and to honor the impact and change she has affected during her short time in the field to provide a more inclusive and accessible museum experience for all.”

The awards program is an annual celebration of the outstanding achievement of Ohio museums in visual communications, individual and institutional achievement, and the tireless work museum professionals undertake to help advance Ohio’s museum community both locally and on a national level.
