FOOD COLLECTION: St. Columba Cathedral in Youngstown will collect nonperishable food items to support the needs of its parish community and those at St. Edward Parish, also in Youngstown, this weekend. Donation bins will be located at the back and front entrances of the church. Anyone wanting to make a cash donation or donate a gift card to local grocery stores can place their donation in an envelope marked “food donation” and put it in the collection basket. The collection will take place the first weekend of every month.

QUARTET TO PERFORM: Music with the Sojourner Quartet will be 6 p.m. May 11 at the Jericho Center (Journey Church), 28278 Warren Meadville Road, Cortland. The event is being sponsored by the Church at Warren. For reservations, call 330-638-2959.

CONCERT: St Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave, Youngstown, will host a concert 1:15 to 2 p.m. Sunday. A free-will offering will be accepted.

TAIZE PRAYER: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will host Taize Prayer at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Taize is a form of Christian prayer originating from the ecumenical Christian community of Taize in France. The theme is Easter. Music ministers are Daniel Laginya and Barb Zorn. The event is free. FIRST SUNDAY: First Presbyterian Church in Warren will have Gerald Wolfe, HIV prevention coordinator at the Warren City Health Department, as guest speaker at 11:15 a.m. Sunday. Wolfe has been involved with the HIV / STI and the Risk Reduction community for over 12 years, primarily in outreach, advocacy, education and as a certified Ohio HIV/HCV counselor.

DIVINE MERCY PRAYER: The Diocese of Youngstown will offer the Chaplet of Divine Mercy Prayer Service at 3 p.m. every Friday at alternating locations. First Friday is at Calvary Cemetery Chapel in Youngstown, second Friday is at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel in Austintown and third Friday is at All Souls Cemetery Chapel in Bazetta.

VIDEO SERIES: The Unity Spiritual Centre, 1226 Naylor Lloyd Road, will offer the Edgar Cayce Video Series featuring first-person interviews with people who knew him the fourth Thursday of each month through 2024. The program is free to the public. Call 330-539-0122.

SINGING GROUP: The Mighty Golden Wonders is marking its 45th anniversary celebration at 5 p.m. May 19 at Phillips Chapel Church of God in Christ, 3903 Jacobs Road SE, Hubbard. Special guests are Faith and the Chosen Vessels and the Sensational Saints of Cleveland, Starlighters Supreme Angels, Trumpets of Joy, Joynetets, Anointed Horner Singers and the Newport Christianaires. The Mighty Golden Wonders will release their new CD project “He’ll Make it Alright.”

FAITH LEARNING: The Office of Faith Formation and Lay Ecclesial Ministry of the Catholic Diocese of Youngstown is offering new online and in-person opportunities for adults seeking to learn more or deepen their understanding of topics in faith and Catholic Church practice.

Courses beginning Monday include “Faith, Hope, and Love: The Seven Catholic Epistles,” led by Al Pompeo. Other online courses May through September include “Preparing Hearts and Minds,” led by Margie Hynes; “My Teachers Were Saints,” led by Eileen Edwards; “Adolescent Catechesis,” led by Bob Barto; “Catholic Belief and Tradition,” led by Sister Regina Rogers; and “Catholics Engaging with Social Media,” led by Cindee Case.

Beginning June 4 “Adolescent Catechesis” will be held in person from 6 to 8 p.m. at Christ Our Savior Parish led by Jerry Land. Materials are provided and assignments are posted at the beginning of a given week, and participants have the week to respond, until the following week’s learning is posted.

SHROUD OF TURIN: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, 225 Villa Marie Road, will offer Shroud of Turin with Barrie Schwortz, at 6 p.m. May 16 with a Zoom presentation in the Conference Center at the Villa Center. The Shroud of Turin is a centuries old linen cloth that bears the image of a crucified man, believed to be Jesus. The program is being sponsored by the William J. Duca Educational Fund with Zoom link available on the website.

Schwortz was the official documenting photographer for the Shroud of Turin Research Project (STURP), the team that conducted the first in-depth scientific examination of the Shroud in 1978.

GUIDED LABYRINTH: Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center, 225 Villa Marie Road, will offer a guided labyrinth walk 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. This month’s theme is peace. The labyrinth is a tool that allows people to explore their inner space and discover the sacred within and around us. Participants prayerfully walk the outdoor grass path after receiving thematic instructions from the presenter. The walk takes place on the picturesque grounds of Villa Maria Community Center. Guided labyrinth walks are free, but registration is preferred.
