Weller Gallery displays pastels of Sewickley

The work of Youngstown native Thomas Sewickley will be shown at Mill Creek MetroParks’ Weller Gallery.

“A Walk Through the Park” features works inspired by Mill Creek created by using soft pastels on sandpaper using a heavy color palette to add energy and to manipulate temperature and contrast. Sewickley chooses sandpaper as his canvas because it allows multiple layers of pigment to be laid down creating a more painterly surface.

Sewickley is a lifelong area resident who was raised on Youngstown’s North Side. He attended St. Edwards School and Ursuline High School. He earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Youngstown State University and his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Kent State University.

“A Walk Through the Park” will be on display Saturday through July 7 at Weller Gallery, located inside the Davis Center at Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Ave., Youngstown.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, go to millcreekmetroparks.org or call 330-740-7116.
