McDonough displays works of YSU alumni and students

Two exhibitions open Friday at the McDonough Museum of Art.

The “Spring 2024 BFA. Exhibition” features the art and design work of students graduating from the Youngstown State University department of art in the spring semester. Students in the department work closely with nationally and internationally known faculty engaged in a broad range of art and design practices. The exhibition is an opportunity for students to share the original and innovative discoveries they have made in their artistic journeys.

Participating artists include Michael Flood, Hannah Gordon, Hope Hefright, Sofia Lanzo, George Mahramas Jr., Katie Masucci, Lanie McLaughlin, Kyla Nichol, Alaina Peccon, Avery Sandy, Bayona Sloan, Bo Yeong (Verena) Son, Kayla Sprumont and Jordan Townsend.

The “Art Education Alumni Invitational Exhibition” is an opportunity to honor almost 90 years of art education at YSU. It highlights a small selection of alum artists from throughout the region who are also art educators.

This exhibition is a chance to celebrate all they do to inspire future artists and art appreciators by teaching and creating their work. It is also a way to thank these individuals and those who came before them for their commitment to bringing art to our community.

Both exhibitions run through May 4 at the McDonough, 525 Wick Ave., Youngstown. An opening reception is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, go to ysu.edu/mcdonough.
