‘Illusion’ becomes reality at Club Switch

Rust Belt Theater Company will stage “The Illusion” for two weekends on the outdoor patio performance space at Club Switch.

The play is adapted by Rust Belt founder Robert Dennick Joki from the French play “L’Illusion Comique” by Pierre Corneille.

It is described as an often hilarious story of love, murder, betrayal and irony, all wrapped up in two acts. The play tells the story of Elsa Pridamont, a troubled mother who ventures into the lair of a well-known sorceress in order to seek out information about her missing son. She is presented with a series of mystical visions about her son, and in the process finds out more than she ever imagined.

According to Joki, “I was originally scheduled to direct Shakespeare in the Park this summer, but when Mahoning Valley Players decided to take the summer off, I still wanted to do some outdoor theater. I’m obviously no William Shakespeare, but I think people who enjoy historical fiction shows like ‘Bridgerton,’ ‘The Gilded Age’ and ‘The Great’ will enjoy ‘The Illusion.'”

The cast includes Shelby Gossick, PK Lankford, Alex Kluchar, Sarah Robles, Kylie Davis, Brandon Groves, Lisa Torrence and Joki.

“The Illusion” will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Aug. 26 at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.
