NY man indicted in assault on Boardman officer

B

YOUNGSTOWN — A Batavia, New York, man has been indicted on several charges related to a Feb. 25 incident at a Boardman hotel in which he is accused of becoming aggressive and kicking a Boardman police officer.

Anthony J. Goulet, 33, was indicted late last week on charges of assault, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, a drug of abuse or a combination of them — OVI. It happened at the Hampton Inn on Tiffany Boulevard when officers found Goulet about 11:30 p.m. passed out in the driver’s seat of his truck in the hotel’s parking lot after officers received complaints about loud music coming from the vehicle.

A Boardman police report states the music volume was “excessive.” When police arrived, they could not get the man to wake up at first. When they opened the truck’s door and nudged his arm to wake him and asked him to turn down the music, Goulet refused and became argumentative, the report states.

Police asked him several times to get out of the truck and he repeatedly refused and became aggressive.

After unsuccessful attempts to use a stun weapon on the man when he reached into the center console of the vehicle, the man tried to shut his door as officers tried to get him out of the truck, the report states.

The door hit one officer and as another reached in, the man allegedly kicked both of his legs out, striking the officer in the side and stomach, the report states.

Police dragged the man from the vehicle, and he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital to be evaluated and treated for a scrape on his forehead which was sustained while police were subduing him on the pavement.
