Ballet Theatre Ashtabula presents spring concert

Ballet Theatre Ashtabula’s 2024 spring dance concert, “Eye of the Storm,” opens Friday at Ashtabula Arts Center.

The concert features BTA’s senior company dancers performing original classical, modern and contemporary choreography, as well as established choreography from famous classical ballets.

The concert’s varied styles of dance give audiences who are only familiar with “The Nutcracker” an energetic introduction to a wide range of performed pieces, as well as providing BTA dancers the opportunity to study with guest artists trained in genres and techniques that are not part of their regular ballet curriculum.

According to Ashtabula Arts Center Director of Dance Clover Robinson, “Having that opportunity to learn from new choreographers and receive training in dance styles outside of ballet is so important to their education. It gives them new ways to challenge themselves and to express themselves. It’s an important part of becoming a well-rounded artist”

“Eye of the Storm” features choreography by Robinson, Amaris LaSalle, Debra Lacey and Theresa Holland.

Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through May 19 at AAC, 2928 W. 13th St., Ashtabula. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for students, senior citizens and military and $13 for children ages 2 to 12 in advance and $19, $17 and $15 at the door the day of the performance. Tickets are available online at ashtabulaartscenter.org and by calling 440-964-3396.
