BASEBALL
Warren JFK 9, Grand Valley 8 (8 inn.) — The Eagles scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh inning, then walked it off with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Mustangs. Carl Krieg and Nick Barbieri led Grand Valley with two hits apiece. Barbieri also finished with three RBIs. Lucas Mealy and Trevin Rinck each tallied three hits for the Eagles, while combining for seven RBIs. Jacob Liber, Andrew Totten and Landon Snyder each also added two hits for JFK, as Brennen Sanata earned the win on the mound.
Canfield 4, Tallmadge 0 — Ryan Weibling pitched a complete-game shutout for the Cardinals, which snapped a three-game losing streak. He struck out 12 while giving up four hits. Anthony Groner had a triple and an RBI, while Joey Gabriel, Michael Maszczak, Jackson Johnson and Louie Zorella each had hits. Gabriel also finished with an RBI.
SOFTBALL
Maplewood 2, Strongsville 0 — Lexi Yannucci pitched a 1-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts to help the Rockets defeat Strongsville. Samantha Krieg led Maplewood with two hits, while Addison Marker had a double and Katie Wear had a triple. Paige Clower had the team’s lone RBI, as Yannucci and Claire Urchek each also produced hits.
South Range 10, Perrysburg 9 — The Raiders scored five runs in the first and fifth innings, riding the hot start to the victory in their first game at the Prebis Invitational. Sophia Brogan, Gabby Spooner, Anna Aey, Solena DeJesus and Cameryn Crepage each finished with two hits for South Range, which included home runs for DeJesus, Aey and Brogan. Brogan batted in three runs, while Aey and DeJesus added two RBIs. Crepage got the win in the circle, pitching the final 3.2 innings with four strikeouts and three walks.
South Range 11, Elyria Catholic 4 — The Raiders won their fifth straight game by cruising past the Panthers in the second game of the Prebis Invitational. Solena DeJesus led the Raiders with three hits, while Addison Wardle had a grand slam. Gabby Spooner and Cameryn Crepage each also added two hits. Crepage picked up the win, going the distance with eight strikeouts and two walks, while giving up two earned runs.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Howland boys volleyball team captured the Berkshire Invitational championship on Saturday after defeating Kenston, Burton Berkshire and Nordonia. The Tigers beat the Bombers 2-0 (25-9, 25-15), the Badgers 2-0 (25-17, 25-18) and the Knights 2-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-15). Wesley Fee had 24 kills across the three matches, while Phillip Rullo had 14. Evan Neely contributed 50 assists, as Carter Jones and Freddie Rivera each had 14 digs.
