Juried YSU student show opens Friday

The 86th Juried Student Art & Design Exhibition opens Friday at the McDonough Museum of art.

Sponsored by the Student Art Association, the exhibition features works by students enrolled in the art department at Youngstown State University.

Taryn McMahon, an associate professor in the school of art at Kent State University, served as juror for the show. McMahon has received numerous awards for her work, including an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award, Knights Arts Challenge, Puffin Foundation Grant, the Southern Graphics Council International Graduate Fellowship and several fully funded residencies.

Her work has been featured in exhibitions at The International Print Center, New York City; The Print Center, Philadelphia; Ortega y Gasset Projects, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Carroll Gallery, Tulane University, New Orleans, La.

Awards will be presented during an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the McDonough, 525 Wick Ave., Youngstown. Awards range range from cash prizes to gift certificates. Local businesses and individuals donate the prizes given out at the ceremony.

Categories include drawing, printmaking, photography, painting, digital media, graphic and interactive design, mixed media, sculpture, and ceramics.

The work will be on display through April 7. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and admission is free. For more information, go to ysu.edu/mcdonough-museum or call 330-941-1400.
