Letters to the editor

The seven deadly sins from the Bible and the Anti-Christ DEAR EDITOR: 1). Pride ... I fear I am less than, so I strut around in arrogance to compensate. 2). Covetousness ... I fear you have too much and I don’t have enough. 3). Lust ... I fear I am not getting enough. 4). Anger ... I fear I won’t get what I want or something I have will be taken away. 5). Envy ... I fear I can’t catch up to you in whatever. 6). Gluttony ... I fear emptiness inside, so I fill up with food. 7). Sloth ... I fear making an effort or I fear success or / ...

All that OT is a public-safety issue

DEAR EDITOR: A couple of Friday’s ago, David Skolnick’s headline article addressed overtime usage of the Youngstown Police department. Last year, 15 officers in the department made over $50K in overtime pay and one officer worked over 2,700 hours of overtime which paid him over $150K. This number of overtime hours, plus regular hours, is equivalent to working over 13 hours per day, 7 days a week for an entire year. Try working those hours for a month and see how productive you are at your nonpublic safety job. I don’t take issue with the dedication of our police officers, or ...

Dems against what’s good for America

DEAR EDITOR: I had a letter written and prepared to submit to the editor. Then I read the Jan. 2 editorial pages. The outright lies and hatred for Trump were stunning coming from allegedly intelligent people. You are too bitter to think rationally. Trump pardoned the Jan. 6 people because he is emulating Hitler and his brown shirts, the Jan. 6 people will be his personal army to go after his detractors. Trump believes God spared his life to be his chosen commander — defy Trump and you defy God. Elon Musk was saluting Hitler as he was jumping up and down with his arm in the air. ...

The road here had a lot of warnings

DEAR EDITOR: How did we get here? 1) Trump is a de facto mob boss — he started by making Republicans afraid of losing their elected jobs. Now, after he let the violent January 6th traitors out of jail, the Republican lawmakers are afraid of losing their lives. Don’t believe me? Ask former Republican U.S. Rep. and OSU receiver Anthony Gonzalez, who left Congress in fear for his family after voting to impeach Trump. Ask former Sen. Mitt Romney who described his talks with fellow Republican Senators who said they feared for their safety. 2) Trump took $250 million from Elon Musk ...

Let’s put a stop to the nonsense

DEAR EDITOR: Elections have consequences. Isn’t that what they always say? Especially the winning side. Could it be the consequences of this past election have put our country in danger of being physically attacked by our adversaries? These rounds of blanket firings of government employees without a thorough examination of their duties has led to this possibility. Combine that with the ineptitude of those charged with leading these agencies (because of their political loyalties) and you have a perfect storm. The most blatant example is the recent firing of hundreds of employees of ...

Star Parker got it wrong yet again

DEAR EDITOR: Not even one month into the “Trusk” administration, Star Parker (Vindy, 2/6/25) is announcing a new savior: Elon Musk. Why is he uniquely qualified for this messianic role? Because, says Parker, he’s too rich to be tempted by “the Washington culture of quid pro quo.” As usual, Ms. Parker has not thought this through. She’s wrong on at least two counts. First, there’s only one Messiah, and we all know who that is for the MAGA crowd (recall Trump’s “I alone can save you”?). How long until these two mammoth megalomaniacs realize that they can’t ...
