Lockdown protesters neglect others’ welfare

DEAR EDITOR:

The sight of protesters in Columbus ignoring social distancing and banging on the glass windows outside the Statehouse reminds me of movies with mindless mobs throughout history demanding that heads roll, without ever fully understanding the implications or the outcomes.

I am baffled by their willful ignorance, selfishness and lack of concern for the welfare of themselves, their families, their neighbors and the greater good of humanity.

Their distorted reality never takes into account the reality of a pandemic. The entire population of the earth is in the grip of a deadly organism, which is new and not yet under control. Until then, societies all over the earth must redefine and accommodate the current restrictions until a cure is made available to all.

Have we become so self-centered, and maybe just too stupid, to realize that science and healing professions — not the economy — is what it will take to gain precedence over this virus?

To not participate and share common concern for the health of all, including the World Health Organization, shows a lack of empathy, which will further demean our standing as an honorable nation.

Unfortunately, many of these protesters may need to reconfigure their red hats to read “MASK” (Make America Sick).
