John K. Dietzel 1936-2020

YOUNGSTOWN — John Karl “Jack” Dietzel, 83, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020, at Ivy Woods Manor in North Lima.

He was born Sept. 7, 1936, in Youngstown, the son of the late John and Dorothy Krichbaum Dietzel.

Jack graduated from Boardman High School and Wilmington (Ohio) College. He did post-graduate work at Drexel University. He then worked as a chemist at Reactive Metals in Niles (which became Ajax Magnethermic), Beryllium Corp. in Reading, Pa., and Fansteel in North Chicago, Ill.

He married Margaret Schubert and to them were born a son, John Karl “Jack” Dietzel Jr., and a daughter, Elizabeth Marie Dietzel.

He sang in choirs throughout his schooling and in church, and was active in several local plays. In high school and college, he was on the varsity tennis teams. Jack was also an accomplished pianist and, in college, formed a band called The Skylighters.

Jack is survived by his two children, Jack (Noreen) Dietzel of Indianapolis and Lisa (David) Raymond of Jacksonville, Fla., and a brother, Ron of Boardman.

He was preceded in death by his sister, LaVerne Dietzel.

Friends may call 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, with a 3 p.m. service to follow, conducted by Pastor Duane Bull of Highway Tabernacle, assisted by Pastor Larry LoVerme, at 193 W. Main St., Cortland. Dinner will follow the service.

The family requests that material tributes take the form of contributions to Highway Tabernacle Missions, 3000 S. Raccoon Road, Austintown, OH 44515.

The family offers special thanks to those at Ivy Woods for their care the last few years.
