Weekly nursing home COVID-19 list delayed

COLUMBUS — The weekly listings of area nursing homes and the numbers of COVID-19 cases for patients and staff at each one is not available yet this week because the Ohio Department of Health has not provided it yet.

Melanie Amato, Ohio Department of Health spokesperson, said the reason for the delay is that the ODH is “still working to confirm that the data is accurate with the local health departments across the state.”

The data, including the number of deaths at area long-term care facilities, has been provided on the ODH website weekly at 2 p.m. on Wednesdays, but it was delayed last Wednesday until about 7 p.m.

It still had not been provided as of about 12:30 p.m. today.

During a AARP Corona Virus Town Hall on protecting and caring for loved ones today, Ohio Department of Aging Director Ursel McElroy specifically mentioned the ODH nuring home list, saying the state has put steps in place “to be as transparent as possible” about the prevalence of COVID-19 in nursing homes, including the list, which she mentioned updates every Wednesday at 2 p.m.
