Seeing Eye: Library event to mark legacy of Reuben McMillan

LIVESTREAM EVENT: The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will celebrate the life and legacy of Reuben McMillan with a live-streamed event on Facebook at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on McMillan’s birth date. This year marks the 200th anniversary of McMillan’s birth, Oct. 7, 1820, in Canfield.

He was a school superintendent and one of the library’s founding fathers. The event will focus on Reuben McMillan’s history and legacy.

Dr. David Ritchie, president, library board of yrustees; Aimee Fifarek, library executive director; Tim Bresnahan, library trustee; and Deborah Liptak, library development director, will speak at the event.

A video detailing the life of Reuben McMillan will be available Wednesday on the library’s website, www.LibraryVisit.org, and the library’s social media. Fifarek opens the video and Tim Seman, genealogy and local history librarian, walks viewers through Reuben’s life, up to his monument in Oak Hill Cemetery.

RALLY PRE-EVENTS: Men’s Rally in the Valley will take place Saturday at the Covelli Centre. Events leading up to the rally include the appearance of Jeff Stultz at Greenford Christian Church at 6:30 p.m. today.

There will be a Bob Evans Community Fundraiser for the Rally all day Wednesday. Bring a flyer or clip this article, and the rally will receive 15 percent of your check.

JJ Weeks and Jeff Stultz will be at Damascus Friends Church on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

At 7 p.m. Friday, there will be a speakers anointing service in Upper Room Fellowship in Columbiana. This is an opportunity to meet the rally speakers, Mike Lindell, Tim Ginter, Lee Haney, Dave Roever, Jeff Stultz and JJ Weeks.

SACRED HEART CLASS LUNCH: Sacred Heart School Class of 1959 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Thanos Family Restaurant, 6620 Tippecanoe Road, Canfield.

For directions, call the restaurant at 330-702-0300. Guests and others who attended Sacred Heart School are welcome to attend.

SETON III MEET SET: Seton III will meet noon Thursday at A La Cart Banquet Center, Lisbon Street, Canfield. Installation of officers will be held and presented by Mary Ann Itts, president. Seventeen members from the Junior Seton Circle will be welcomed.

Social distancing will be observed, and those attending are to wear a mask.
