Innocent people continue to be shot and killed because people don’t handle guns properly. I always thought it was simple. Every gun, unless you personally check it, should be considered live, loaded and very dangerous. The fact that at least three people handled the gun in the latest incident on the “Rust” movie set that ended up killing a young mom is beyond tragic. It’s unacceptable.

There was no fraud in our last national election. Donald Trump and his GOP lackeys continue to menace our democracy and betray their oaths to protect the Constitution by lying to the nation that the election was stolen. Stand up and send those two sentences to your government officials and friends and include these words: I will not vote for any candidate or political agenda that supports Trumpism and will actively work for their defeat.

Pushing COVID-19 vaccines on children in order to protect older adults is the moral equivalent of ISIS terrorists hiding behind innocent women and children for protection.

Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver traveled to Houyhnhnms Land where inhabitants had no word for “lie.” They reasoned the “use of speech was to make us understand one another and to receive information of facts; now if anyone said the thing which was not, these ends were defeated.” Our language has 43 synonyms for “lie.” President Biden and Press Secretary Jen Psaki mastered these and added “spin,” “half-truths” and “evade.” Two whoppers: “Our border is closed” and “Afghan pull-out was a success.”

Canfield

Listened to Biden’s news conference Oct.13 about cargo ships sitting away from docks and several other problems and what “his team” is doing about them. Lo and behold, they are now going to do the same exact things that Trump was doing. Maybe they finally are realizing how stupid it was to do what they did, but I doubt it. Maybe they’ll even restart the Keystone pipeline and the border wall — two major mistakes of “his team.”

So now the current administration soon will want proof of vaccination or a negative test to fly into America from foreign countries. Do all the folks brought in during the airlifts and placed at military bases now being flown for resettlement to who knows where in our country need this requirement? Maybe we can get a statement from our congressman on this. Our ears are open.

News reports that anyone traveling to the United States must be COVID-19 tested and have vaccination proof. This is responsible action to keep out infected people. Why isn’t Joe Biden using the same policy on the southern border? Illegal immigrants are not vaccinated nor tested. Does Biden really think these people can’t spread COVID? It doesn’t matter whether or not you voted for Biden; he’s hurting all Americans with his radical policies. C’mon man, do your job!

An epidemic is spreading throughout Youngstown: drivers turning left and going straight on red; speeding cars around those stopped for red lights and recklessly flying through intersections; a parade of cars through intersections after their light turned red; abuse of handicap parking signs and spaces; cars with mega-watt amplified thumping music; cars blocking side street traffic while chatting with someone standing on the street in defiance of cars waiting to proceed; and, finally, drivers without valid licenses and insurance.

The headline on Thursday’s front page should have just said: “Fox News and The New York Post lied to you again.” The Vindy refuted the lies and gave proof the flights were for a football team, yet 49 percent of your readers still believe the lies. God save us from ourselves. No wonder young people are leaving our state and area in droves.

The city of Girard is wrong to charge 1,500 Liberty residents the second highest water rates in Ohio. It does not cost Girard any more money to send water a couple blocks away. Those 1,500 residents and all Liberty residents should boycott Girard businesses. Let those businesses know what you are doing and why you are taking your money elsewhere.

Electric vehicle maker LMC struggles to launch its electric truck, so now it will sell part of the plant to a Taiwanese company that makes Apple phones. (What weight in world affairs will the US bear for that?) We’re leaning further on non-USA manufacturing and enabling foreign manufacturing to take place here. After World War II, it was illegal for a foreign entity to own more than 49 percent of any company in America. What happened to that?

The man unable to maintain even a web page now launches an hilariously misnamed social media platform for “invited” users foolish enough to believe his drivel. He’s hoping they all join so he can collect their dues and grift them for his self-aggrandizing merchandise to fund his legal defense. He believes a sucker is born each minute solely for his convenience. That’s a lot of chutzpah for a guy who thinks neo-Nazis are “very fine people.”

All it took to have the FBI investigate parents protesting at school board meetings was a letter from the NSBO to Biden’s AG. How come Antifa and BLM wasn’t investigated by the FBI? Is it a coincidence that since President Carter created the Education Department, test scores have been on a slow constant decline? Just an observation.

How can President Biden’s approval rating be so high – 38 percent? Yogi Berra said, “You can observe a lot just watching.” Maybe they aren’t watching. Our border is in chaos, economy is sluggish, inflation increasing, energy independence lost, crime rising, supply chain bottlenecked, vaccine mandates unpopular, Afghanistan pullout a disaster, armed terrorists are emboldened. He promised to end COVID, be transparent and unite our country. COVID is still here, he avoids press questions and our country is fractured

We pass bills to take care of illegals, but hold U.S. citizens hostage! All bills in Congress should be individualized and voted on separately. Lump together all infrastructure: sewers, water, roads, bridges. But social packages of $3 trillion to $4 trillion and thousands of pages? No way!

Canfield

Biden has written executive orders canceling Trump’s Keystone pipeline, offshore drilling, gas and oil leases on public lands and exploration in Alaska. Gas is now $3.29 with no end in sight. Grocery store shelves are starting to empty. They run around like headless chickens with no idea what to do. I can see a recession coming and the swamp is only interested in spending trillions on pork projects. Dems voted this fool into office, not me.

Officials reportedly are discussing a $41 million Meander Dam renovation. If this is pursued, then all local entities that buy and sell water need to regionalize to facilitate fair and reasonable costs to end users. The way things are today, some pay $5 per 1,000 units; others pay $17 per 1,000. I pay $17 and live within a mile of the lake that supplies all the water to everyone. Time to stop profiting upon some folks versus others.

A recent published comment from “We the vaccinated” claimed the rights of the vaccinated are somehow being ignored while telling those who chose not to be vaccinated that they don’t have a right to their choice. Many have valid medical reasons for not getting the shot, yet still lose their jobs. If you are vaccinated, what difference does it make what others choose?

Jamie Stiehm’s opinion piece in Thursday’s Vindicator was full of erroneous points, with the most egregious being painting the entire crowd in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6 as coordinated with a common intent of insurrection. This misinformation promoted endlessly by media, like Stiehm, keeps a lie going by painting thousands of people who were in no way involved in what happened as “domestic terrorists.” Educate yourself. Don’t buy this lie.

Government says Social Security will be bankrupt in 10 years. Homeland Security says over 3 million illegals have crossed into our country through Joe Biden’s open border this year, many of them unvaccinated. The total here now is 36 million, costing us $650 billion per year to support. As a legal immigrant, I am appalled, while others trying to come legally are pushed to the back of the line. This will make America another broke country like Venezuela. We simply can’t afford this.

Youngstown

Dr. Christopher Rake, University of California Los Angeles Hospital, clarified the logic apparently being used by bureaucratic health care experts. We can conquer COVID-19 by protecting the vaccinated from the unvaccinated; that’s a clear strategy! Simplified, we must protect the protected from the unprotected by forcing the unprotected to take protection, which is not protecting the protected. Confused? If so, you are thinking too much. Just do what the government tells you to do! That’s how it is done in China.

Texas teachers (yes, teachers) now claim any schoolbook mentioning the murderous Holocaust that killed 6 million Jews should be offset by a volume of an opposing view! “Mien Kampf” maybe? Of course, any mention that a theory critical of racism even exists is verboten. All that’s left for residents of this giant sandbox of willful ignorance is book burning and a beer hall putsch. Such disgraceful people continue the hateful ways of the last president.

While the transportation system in this country breaks down, Transportation Secretary Peter Buttigeig takes three months of paid parental leave. If he didn’t intend to do the work, he should not have taken the job. It’s about time these lazy liberals start working instead of creating ways not to work. And if parental leave is appropriate, why did the Transportation Department keep the information secret?

I was surprised to read Vindicator poll results that most did not donate to breast cancer foundations, unless readers like myself forgot to submit their “yes” vote. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and Panerathon just finished, I think many people have donated to breast cancer research and other foundations here in our Valley and across the nation. Thanks to all who donated to this worthy cause.

I read about the Cameron family and Mill Creek MetroParks’ attempt to bully another property owner using eminent domain to acquire property. This project is not of great local economic importance, it isn’t needed for a road or other necessary project. It is for recreation, nothing more! Enough is enough! If Mill Creek MetroParks continues to try this, then it is time for action. Maybe a communitywide push to defund the park will get their attention!

The Vindicator published a brief article regarding the award presented by the Ohio State Auditor to the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office for good recordkeeping. However, the article did not mention our county Auditor Ralph Meacham by name. He is responsible for this excellent report. Mr. Meacham is a fine example of an employee who is dedicated to performing his job in a professional manner and is deserving of this recognition.

I have thought for years if politicians really want to help the common person, we would have inexpensive housing, food and energy. We have none of those. Yet, politicians continue to spend money we don’t have. The only reason is either stupidity or corruption. I believe it’s corruption, money, power and greed.

General Milley may have committed treason when he cautioned and reassured his counterpart in China after the January Capitol attack. Had he been loyal to the very ill ego in the White House, three quarters of Earth might have become a smoking cinder by childish tantrum over a lost election. The good to come of his choice is the better part, and it’s far superior to choices the GOP continues to make in support of insurrection.

Seinfeld’s George Costanza quipped, “It is not a lie if you believe it.” This must be true since so many politicians appear genuinely sincere as canards and pablum roll off their tongues. Polished political rhetoric includes enough truth to convince the uninformed. With so many biased journalists, TV commentators and twits tweeting, the truth is elusive. Misinformation, disinformation and falsehoods abound. Truth seeking requires constant skepticism, critical thinking and the patience of a 49er panning for gold.

The silence is deafening from my liberal Facebook friends. Gone are post after post about how Mr. Biden and his policies were going to be wonderful for this country. Sure, there are still occasional Trump-bashing

memes (now including Ron DeSantis, I have noticed), but not a peep about the current administration’s actions. Does Mr. Biden still have support he once did? If so, where have all the supportive posts gone?

Please, let’s not let Youngstown City schools out of state oversight. A 15 percent proficiency goal is deplorable. It will be sad to see Huntington Bank leave its current location in the old Mahoning Bank building in downtown Youngstown. Beautiful architecture and interior design that it features are an art form that was lost long ago. Hopefully some other bank or company will recognize what this building has to offer. Will the driving habits of new Afghan refugees be better than what’s on inner-city streets now? Will they speed around cars stopped for a red light without regard for cross traffic? Will they abuse handicapped parking spaces? Will their cars have mega-watt amplifiers thumping and shaking music in neighborhoods? Will their cars block side street traffic while chatting with someone standing on the street? Will their drivers have valid licenses and insurance? Hopefully, new arrivals learn to drive without annoying habits.

The recent failed Arizona audit of the 2020 presidential election and those proposed in Pennsylvania, Texas and other states are scams to push the big lie, provide money to Trump and auditors and to justify voter suppression. These audits and voter suppression laws will undermine and damage the country so a small minority can gain control.

They will illegitimately place people in power who will serve themselves financially. Most Americans will suffer. Follow the money.

Ted Cruz wants to stand with unvaccinated NBA stars for many reasons: basking in their fame; sharing their willful ignorance of vaccines; hoping to grab the cash they will lose by disqualifying themselves from play; hiding behind them from outraged female voters, any of whom would whip him like a rented mule.
