Getting canned for a worthy cause at Eastwood Mall

Staff photo by R. Michael Semple

Niles First Christian Church members Howard Gerke of Liberty, left, and Dennis Carpenter of Warren, stack cans to create a “Jonah and the Whale” design, which used 1,300 canned goods. The Eastwood Mall in Niles hosted the third annual Canstruction design and build competition during which local companies and organizations build structures out of canned goods that are then donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley. This year’s theme was “under the sea.” The structures were built Friday in the Target concourse and the public can vote for the People’s Choice Award at the mall’s customer service center through June 11.

Starting at $3.23/week.
