Trumbull Career Center hires firm to assist with addition
CHAMPION — The Trumbull Career and Technical Center is moving forward with a new 13,800-square-foot addition to the center for an industrial technology and STEAM building.
The TCTC board approved MCS & Associates consulting services for the addition at $43,000.
“They are acting as our owner’s reps for the construction project. They will help ensure everything is done on time, efficiently and at a cost savings,” TCTC Superintendent Jason Gray said.
The district acquired $5.1 million from the Appalachian Community Innovation Centers grant program.
The new addition is expected to be completed by summer 2026 and will house engineering and industrial technology programs.
“We are excited to be getting this and to be able to work with the Ohio Schools Facilities Commission on this project,” Gray said.
The two programs will be located inside the newly built area on the east side of the building near the wood trades and carpentry program.
The American Rescue Plan established the Capital Projects Fund and appropriated $10 billion for funding crucial capital projects. The state was awarded more than $268.5 million in funding,
The district also is seeking qualifications for construction manager at risk for the project.
FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS
The board also approved GPD professional architectural services for the school dining finish improvements and will provide guidance in getting a new floor for the cafeteria.
Gray said the 47-year-old cafeteria floor needs to be replaced.
“That is the original floor when the career center opened,” Gray said. “GPD will help us find what type of floor best fits our needs. We want to get a floor that lasts for decades.”
He said officials went to Beaver Local Schools and other districts to see their flooring.
Also, Jerry Gorgie, facilities supervisor, said there were various construction and remodeling projects completed over the summer, which included a new aviation and drone room that was created from a former ROTC room.
The ninth and 10th grades Early Innovators Academy was relocated to the second floor of the adult education wing, several science labs were remodeled, the high school reception area was remodeled to have an Americans with Disabilities Act counter area, and an electronic sign by Route 45 had LED lights installed.
A new aviation and drone program room is nearing completion. A digital marketing program room was also completed for that new program.
Work on the equine building is expected to be completed by end of the year,
Anina Kalrovic, supervisor of industry and trade at TCTC, said she was told the new equine building will be done around Christmas.
