WHAT: Board of Education meeting, May 20

The board:

• Recognized eighth grade Hubbard Middle School student Ben Balog for being the runner-up in the WFMJ Regional Spelling Bee on March 10.

• Accepted donations from: Barbara Kindler, $2,500 to Eagle Essentials; Panigall Family, $1,000 to the art club; Mrs. McCleery and Mrs. Marian, $900 to the STEAM program; Braydich Dental, $500 to the art department; Volleyball Boosters, $350 to the athletic department; Marconi Youth Charities, $300 to the food service department; and $40 to the food pantry from anonymous donors.

• Approved a lease agreement between the Hubbard Exempted Village School District and the Roosevelt Community Partnership.

• Approved a contract with Mike Pusateri Excavating Inc. for the expansion of the Hubbard Elementary School parking lot.

• Hired Bonnie Clark as a food service substitute for the 2023-24 school year effective April 19 and Alyssa Longwell as a Hubbard Middle School long-term substitute for fifth and sixth grade English language arts, effective for the 2024-25 school year.

• Approved college credit plus programs through Youngstown State University, Belmont College and Cuyahoga Community College for the 2024-25 school year.

• Approved Hubbard Elementary School teacher Marissa Davidson and Hubbard High School teacher Diane Earich for FMLA, and Hubbard Middle School teacher Katie Duchek for parental leave.

• Hired Hubbard Elementary School staff Kelsey Calascibetta, Kristen Chufo, Marissa Davidson, Annie DeLuco, Michelle Hardman, Margaret Herberger, Lindsay Hurdley, Leah Orlowski, DeLisa Rosine and Chase Staunch; Hubbard Middle School staff Nicole Barner, Rebecca Buchenic, Elizabeth Corbett, Dominique Fortunato, Shannon Seese, Noelle Swartz, Gianna Thomson, Rachel Tricomi and Jodi Walker; and Hubbard High School staff Michael Brekoski, Rachel Cline, Michael Kacir, Kelly Drew Kensinger, Ryan Love, Michael Maietta, Holly Marshall, Jenna McCarty, Shannon Okeke, Eric Rupe, Katherine Sacco, Mary Sainato, Lindsay Sinkovich, Nathaniel Solak, Kayla Welsh and Anne Zagorec to one-year contracts effective for the 2024-25 school year.

• Hired Susan Lingenfelter, Sharon Peachock, Wendy O’Rourke, Michelle Bowers, Michael Holowatuk, Selena Pounds, Brianna Wright, Madison Saffels, Connie Swartz, Eva Helmick, Katie McMillen, Ryan Shamblin, Tiffany Connon, Carol Swartzand and Joshua Foster for the summer help program, effective Monday and Kimberly Brannan, James Paterniti and Eric Fisher for the summer help program effective July 1 through Aug. 9.

• Hired home instruction tutors Andrea Stamp, math pre-calculus, 12th grade, two hours per week; Kelly Drew Kensinger, four CP English, 12th grade, two hours per week; and Heather White, sixth grade, five hours per week.

• Hired Wesley Best, Hubbard Middle School, science teacher; Sierra Moran, Hubbard Middle School, English language arts teacher; and Natalie Giancola, Kindergarten, all effective for the 2024-25 school year.

• Hired Dana Capezzuto as an intervention specialist for the 2024-25 school year.

• Hired Nicholas Bowser, varsity and junior varsity softball scoreboard, $700; Rheanna Barr, varsity and junior varsity softball scoreboard, $700; Nathaniel Reel, varsity and junior varsity baseball and softball scoreboard and OHSAA district tournament ball chaser, $450; Dorothy Arvin, middle school meet track timer, $35; Karen Cassano, high school and middle school meet track timer, $70; Paul Cassano, high school and middle school track timer, $70; Candace Ackworth, high school and middle school track recorder, $70; Brian Appel, OHSAA baseball and softball athletic trainer, $325; and Joseph Zagorec, softball stats, $875.

• Hired lifeguards Eric Northcott effective May 6 and Shawn Marcello effective May 8, both for $10.80 per hour.
