Man accused of illegal dumping on West Side

YOUNGSTOWN — A man was charged with a minor misdemeanor of open dumping Monday morning after officers went to his home on South Whitney Avenue on the West Side for a dumping complaint.

The report states that the officer has received multiple complaints about the man dumping items over the guardrail at the end of the street. The officer also received photos and videos showing the suspect while he was dumping items over a guardrail at the end of the street, including a deceased dog.

The officer issued the man a citation and told him his hearing date in Youngstown Municipal Court is 9 a.m. June 8, but the man had no new charges on file in that court as of Tuesday afternoon. The newspaper is not naming the suspect until he has charges on file with the court.

The report states that the officer has received photos and videos that “show trash, mattresses and other random items being dumped by the man,” the report states.

When the officer told the suspect about the photos and videos, the suspect told the officer to give him a ticket, the report states. The officer also spoke with a second person who said the deceased dog belonged to an elderly neighbor, and the suspect was “asked to bury the dog,” but the suspect instead wrapped it in a tarp and tossed it in the wood line just over the guardrail at the end of the street on South Whitney,” the report states.

The officer stated that he took photos “of the dumping,” and the photos will be added to the police report.
