911 call details deadly shooting

Tapes reveal what occurred leading up to woman’s death

HUBBARD TOWNSHIP — A terrified woman told 911 dispatchers her ex-boyfriend held a gun to her head and forced her into the trunk of a vehicle before killing the woman’s girlfriend, recordings from Trumbull County 911 show.

Judith Britton of Dogwood Lane called 911 around 10 a.m. Thursday from a pull-off just off Seifert Lewis Road to report her ex shot Adreionna Faith Hasley-Crockett, 22, 1324 Dogwood Lane.

Devonte Douglas, 25, 1471 Dogwood Lane, is charged with murder and scheduled to appear Thursday in Girard Municipal Court. Douglas appeared via video Friday in the court, where he acknowledged the complaint and Judge Jeffrey D. Adler set bond at $1 million.

Britton called 911 in a panic.

“Can you locate my call? Because I don’t know where I am, but my ex just killed my girlfriend. … He killed her. He killed her. I was in the back. He drove my car. I was in the trunk. He killed her. Please…” Britton said.

Britton was terrified the man would come back to the scene or hurt her, too.

“I’m so scared he’s going to find me. … I’m just so scared he’s going to come back for me,” Britton told the dispatcher.

Britton said Hasley-Crockett has a child and sobbed as she described what happened.

Britton said her ex put a gun to her head and then “tricked” Hasley-Crockett by using her.

“He kidnapped me, put me in the trunk, came here (and) killed her,” Britton told the dispatcher.

While in the trunk, Britton said she heard “so many shots, so many of them.” She said the man shot Hasley-Crockett through the driver’s side window.

Then, he took Britton from the scene and left her with her car, Britton told the dispatcher.

Britton drove back to the pull-off to see if Hasley-Crockett was still alive, she said, and called 911.

She checked for a pulse and for a heartbeat but did not find one.

The man was acting “crazy” and wanted to be Britton’s boyfriend again, Britton said.

“I don’t know if he had an alter ego or something. It was like he believed he wasn’t Devonte,” she told dispatchers.

She was worried the man might locate her or her son.

“I can’t believe he did that; I want him to go to prison,” Britton said.

Douglas was booked 8:10 p.m. Thursday into the Trumbull County jail, where he remains. It was the first time he was booked into the jail or charged with a crime in the municipal court.

Earlier on Thursday, Douglas showed up at the Youngstown Police Department shortly after the shooting in an attempt to get a car out of impound. Douglas was detained for questioning, according to a report.

Halsey-Crockett’s Chevrolet Impala and Britton’s Chevrolet Malibu were at the scene of the murder. Hubbard Township police and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the case.
