NC man on trial in fatal 422 crash

YOUNGSTOWN — After the prosecution and defense picked a jury Monday, opening statements and witness testimony will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the aggravated vehicular homicide trial of Robert C. Powell, 25, of North Carolina.

Powell was working in the area when he was involved in a fatal crash on April 10, 2025, at U.S. Route 422 and South Hubbard Road in Coitsville Township that killed John Kulnis, 62, of New Castle, Pa. The crash happened at 6:48 p.m.

Powell was indicted in June on charges of felony aggravated vehicular homicide, felony improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, misdemeanor drunken driving and misdemeanor failure to yield the right of way.
