WHAT: City council meeting Monday

PRESENT: Sam Zirafi, Mark Standohar, John Moliterno, Lily Martuccio, Keith Schubert, Reynold Paolone, Thomas Grumley, Jeff Kay and Mayor Jim Melfi

Council:

l Heard from Melfi that the Trumbull County Combined Health District officially declared the property at 25 W. Liberty St. unfit for human habitation due to unsanitary conditions, broken windows, gutted interior and in poor overall condition. The building was inspected on Jan. 29;

l Approved legislation be prepared to seek bids for replacing the pipes and valves at the pump lift station off Kieffer Road to help improve the water service to the area and also valves on the Moser Road bridge. Officials said they will check to see if the project can be covered by the COVID-19 relief funds the city is expected to receive;

l Announced a followup meeting with fire Chief Ken Bornemiss over the possibility of forming a joint fire district with Weathersfield and Liberty to be held 6 p.m. April 12, followed by a utilities meeting at 6:45 p.m. for replacement of problem areas in the water system.

PRESENT: Mark Standohar, Lily Martuccio, Reynald Paolone, Keith Schubert, Jeff Kay, Sam Zirafi and Mayor James Melfi

ABSENT: John Moliterno and Thomas Grumley

Council:

• Heard from Melfi, who had been the city treasurer for 11 years, who wants officials and Treasurer Mark Zuppo to sit down and review income tax numbers and finances for 2020 and 2021. He said he is concerned that 2020 income tax collections were not good for the city last year. A caucus session was set for 6:30 p.m. March 22 on finances;

• Were informed bids will be received for the Wellman Avenue drainage project set for this summer;

• Set a special caucus session 6:30 p.m. Monday for combined discussion on economic development and zoning issues in the city.
