STRUTHERS — A new chapter in the Struthers Municipal Court has begun.

Amsi Medina was sworn in as the new clerk of court on Wednesday, in front of courthouse employees.

Taking the oath from municipal Judge Dominic Leone, Medina’s husband, Vincent Krpicak, held the Bible as Medina was sworn into office.

“We’re proud to usher in a new era in Struthers court with Amsi leading the clerk’s office,” Leone said. The courthouse’s newest addition “brings a wealth of experience and education to the position.”

Medina succeeds Lorraine Sciortino, who accepted a role with the Mahoning County Board of Elections. Sciortino was clerk from January 2018 to October 2020.

One of his first tasks as the new clerk is to lead the court’s transition to electronic filing, which should be running in March or April.

Originally it was anticipated the new filing system would have rolled out already, but due to staff changes and COVID-19, the date had to be pushed back.

“We are excited to have that done and help a lot of people,” Medina said.

Born in Puerto Rico, Medina grew up in Campbell, graduating from Campbell Memorial High School in 1997.

After working in a law office, Medina worked as a bailiff for the Mahoning County court system for 16 years. He made the move to Struthers Municipal Court in 2019 as a deputy clerk.

“As clerk of court, it is my duty to enforce our mission statement, which is to provide courteous service in an efficient manner, being a problem-solving court, and to encourage and create new and creative ideas for helping the citizens in our community rise above difficult circumstances” that come before the court, Medina said.

Medina, 41, and Krpicak live in Poland.
