Two charged in murder

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown police arrested two men in connection to a July 1 murder, according to a news release.

Police on Wednesday morning arrested Julius E. Kimbrough, 43, and Dawond T. Roddy, 34, on charges of aggravated murder, according to the press release.

The charges were filed in Youngstown Municipal Court. Arraignments have not yet been scheduled, according to court records.

Attorney information for the men was not listed in online court records.

Youngstown police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 330-742-8929, or Crime Stoppers at 330-746-CLUE.

The Youngstown Fire Department was called to the 3300 block of McGuffey Road on the East Side at 9:21 p.m. July 1 for a brush fire, but discovered a sports utility vehicle in the woods fully engulfed in flames.

While extinguishing the fire, they discovered a body in the rear cargo area of the vehicle. Youngstown police, the coroner’s office and the fire department’s arson investigator were called to the scene.

Although police believe they have identified the body found in the burning vehicle, they are waiting for the Mahoning County Coroner’s Office to confirm the person’s identity, as well as a cause of death.

If the death is ruled a homicide, it will be the city’s 16th this year. The city had 20 in all of 2019.
