Fire board clarifies room statement

HUBBARD — At the board meeting of the Eagle Joint Fire District Wednesday night, it was brought to the fire board’s attention that a statement made at the trustee meeting on Monday needed some clarification.

Trustee Rick Hernandez, who also serves on the fire board, made a comment about the fire department spending $87,000 on an “elaborate workout center.”

“I thought it was very misleading,” said fire Chief Ron Stanish, asking that Hernandez do some damage control. “What you failed to mention was that the workout room is mandated by the Ohio State Administrative Code. The records retention room is also mandated under the Administrative Code. We also put in a radio room and a records room.”

The project in total cost the district $87,000, but in addition to a workout room, the district also finished a records room and put in a radio room.

“It was out of context on my part if it was taken that way. And that is my fault for not elaborating on what it was for,” Hernandez said. “If it looked bad, I apologize. That’s on me.”

Hernandez will be making a formal statement at the next trustee meeting.

Also at the meeting, the fire board:

• Approved hiring AES Survey and Land to survey the land at 22 S. Main St. for an amount not to exceed $550;

• Approved placing Mackenzie Pasco on the volunteer firefighter roster;

• Thanked the community for passing the additional levy to fund a part-time fire district.
