Lisbon hopes for edge in TV’s ‘Hometown Takeover’

Staff report

LISBON — Lisbon hopes to have an inside edge in being selected for the”Hometown Takeover” program on HGTV,

thanks to its historic past and architecture, Mayor Peter Wilson said.

Ben and Erin Napier, hosts of the series, will lead a team of renovation professionals as they “take over and make over” an entire small town in the six-episode special event slated to air on HGTV in 2021, according to a news release from the network.

“We thought Lisbon would be perfect for the show,” Wilson said.

“Large parts of the village are in the National Register of Historic Places, and our architecture is amazing and special.” he said.

Nick Baronzzi, Susan Nutter, Debbie Richards, April Caruso-Richards, Linda Donnalley, Susan Temple and Tammy Roberts worked over six weeks to prepare the application for the program, which was submitted last week.

“We submitted our initial application to the production company in late December,” Wilson said. “A week later, the Napiers came out with their own application process, which includes a video.”

The video — with help from Jerry Tyson — highlights landmarks in the village, as well as the Little Beaver Creek and the Greenway Trail.

Historical society curator Gene Krotky, and entrepreneurs Bob Bye and Renee Lewis, make cameo appearances in the video.

An essay and five photos completed the application process.

HGTV has given no indication when the winner for the 2021 program will be announced.
