10:15 p.m. Sun.: Many still without power in the Valley

Saturday storm’s damage continued to be felt Sunday with many Mahoning Valley residents still without power and others with downed trees on their properties., Saturday’s storm came one week after another wind storm on March 25 that had knocked out power to residents, some for several days.

FirstEnergy customers in Mahoning and Trumbull counties should see their power restored by 11 p.m. Tuesday, a company spokesperson said.

As of 10 p.m. Sunday, FirstEnergy was reporting numbers of customers without power almost 2,600 in Mahoning County, about 5,800 in Trumbull County and about 850 in Columbiana County.

Local officials are asking customers not to call 911 or the dispatch center with power outages but to call FirstEnergy or your local power provider.

Some roadways are closed due to downed wires and fallen trees.

Residents are advised to stay at least 30 feet away from downed or low-hanging wires.

The National Weather Service in Cleveland had reported wind gusts of more than 40 mph during the April 1 storm.

Lauren Siburkis, spokeswoman for the power company, noted “thousands of damage locations, consisting of hundreds of broken poles, downed power lines and fallen trees and debris blocking road access.”

At this stage, Siburkis said Ohio Edison’s primary focus is to remove any hazards and assess the damage so that crews can access the site of an outage and begin to safely make the repairs.

“This can be a time-consuming process,” she said.

For restoration, Siburkis said the company can not give exact times, but it could take a few days. She said more than 200 additional resources are assisting with restoration efforts, with more crews coming.

Starting at $3.23/week.
