Mon. 12:20 p.m.: Man accused of making bomb threats

YOUNGSTOWN – Police here arrested a man this morning after a bomb threat was called into the county 911 center.

Dion Taylor was taken into custody after police spotted two men walking downtown after the threat and learned one of the men had recently made 911 calls on his cell phone, said Lt. Frank Rutherford.

The man told police he made the call because he thought the U.S. Marshal’s Service was looking for him and he thought calling in a bomb threat might “buy him time,” Rutherford said.

In the 8:30 a.m. call, the man indicated there were bombs in several downtown buildings, including the Mahoning County Courthouse, George Voinovich government building and Youngstown Police Department, but he told police those threats were made up.

Rutherford said he doesn’t believe any of the buildings were evacuated.
