SEEING EYE: Benefit set for wife of deputy with ALS disease

BLUE LINE UNLIMITED: The wife of a Mahoning County sheriff’s deputy is fighting a noncurable neuromuscular disease.

The organization Blue Line Unlimited, which supports law-enforcement personnel and their families, is putting together a fundraiser to help the deputy and his family tackle the mounting medical bills and other expenses.

Kathy Carbon, the wife of longtime deputy Andy Carbon, was recently diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (or Lou Gehrig’s Disease), which weakens muscles and impacts physical functions.

The couple has three adult children, but the Carbons face a long road, including the costs to adapt their home to accommodate Kathy Carbon’s physical limitations.

The Carbons have been married for 30 years, and Andy Carbon has served in the corrections department.

The Blue Line Unlimited group has organized a raffle with all proceeds donated to the Carbon family. Prizes from this drawing will include two Smith and Wesson firearms and a Bowflex home gym and interchangable dumbbell set.
