Eastern Gateway plans hybrid for fall semester

YOUNGSTOWN — Eastern Gateway Community College has tentative plans in place for some on-campus learning for the fall semester during the continued viral outbreak.

Fall semester will replicate Eastern Gateway’s summer plans, which emphasized online classes while allowing students on campus to make up labs held over from spring semester.

For the upcoming semester, classes without hands-on components will be online with the exception of in-person labs that will meet on campus. Clinicals will continue to be scheduled by the participating entity, not by the college.

The fall semester begins Aug. 17.

“While plans may change in response to the realities of the pandemic and the state of Ohio’s recommendations for higher education, our doors will be open,” interim President and Chief Financial Officer Michael Geoghegan said. “We are taking a practical and responsible approach to ensure the health and safety of our staff, faculty and students remains our top priority.”

Classrooms will be structured in a way that ensures students and faculty are able to maintain appropriate social distancing. Also, appropriate personal protective equipment will be provided.
