Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and Cleveland Fed President and CEO Loretta J. Mester will join local workforce, economic development and community officials on a virtual discussion about the Mahoning Valley workforce.

The video conference, “Building a Resilient Workforce,” will take place 1 to 2:30 p.m. June 19.

Joining the talk will be Jessica Borza, executive director, Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition; Sarah Boyarko, chief operating officer, Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber; Jamael Tito Brown, Youngstown mayor; Jim Tressel, president, Youngstown State University; and Carmella Williams, director of diversity and inclusion for the Youngstown Business Incubator and founder of Carmella Marie Inc.

“The discussion will focus on the impacts of COVID-19 on the Youngstown-area workforce and on the ways that regions can build resiliency needed for their households, businesses and workers to better recover from economic shocks,” a release on the conference states.

The announcement references a shock other than the viral outbreak — General Motors closing its automaking plant in Lordstown.

The discussion is the first of a two-part series of Youngstown-focused events.
