REGIONAL CHAMBER CANCELS EVENTS: The Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber has canceled several events in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Not happening are the leadership series Thursday, power lunch at Cocca’s Pizza in Boardman on April 7 and a drugs in the workplace seminar April 7.

Pending events include Lattes and Legislators with Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof on April 9 at America Makes in downtown Youngstown and a power lunch April 14 at Red Lobster in Niles.

The chamber postponed its annual meeting that was set for March 19.

FLY TO D.C.: The chamber’s third annual Washington, D.C., fly-in will be June 10-11. The event is designed to exchange ideas between state and federal officials and Valley leaders.

The priorities include local infrastructure improvements, supporting the missions at Camp James A. Garfield and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station and the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

The cost is $1,000 and includes one night at Hyatt House: The Wharf. Guests who would like to handle their own accommodations can attend for $750. Transportation via private plane is available for an additional $1,000.

FORMER YOUNGSTOWN WOMAN APPOINTED TO ADVISORY COUNCIL: Mary Anne Schultz, a 1975 graduate of Youngstown State University with a nursing degree who now lives in California, recently was appointed to a statewide group of health professionals, scientists and community activists to guide the states Initiative to Advance Precision Medicine (CIAPM).

Schultz, a professor in the Cal State San Bernardino Department of Nursing and an informaticist, is the sole registered nurse on the 11-member advisory council, which will support patient-focused research demonstration projects and connect health and medicine stakeholders across the state.

She has more than 40 years of nursing experience, including business and clinical intelligence strategy, which is the aggregation, analysis, and use of clinical, financial, operational and nontraditional data captured inside and out of the health care setting to inform decision-making directly. She was chosen in part due to her long-standing affiliation to the California State University system as a nurse educator.

Founded in 2015, the CIAPM goal is to support innovations in health and steward advances to be inclusive, put patients and health improvement at the center of outcomes and strengthen emerging science and technologies.

VP NAMED AT STEEL STRIP CO.: Krissy von Philp was recently named vice president of Specialty Strip & Oscillating, Inc., a supplier of oscillated and ribbon-wound prime steel coils in Masury.

She is responsible for overseeing the internal operations, building customer relationships and maximizing the company’s operating performance. She holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from Kent State University, as well as an MBA in business management from Youngstown State University.

She previously was the chief operating officer at KDA, Inc. She also has been a real estate agent for Real Living Realty Group for over 12 years and is a member of the National Association of Realtors.

She recently married company President Adam von Philp.

FORBES RECOGNIZES KSU: Forbes has named Kent State University among the top 20 companies in the U.S. The school ranks No. 13 among 500 companies in 24 sectors and is the only public or private university to make the 2020 list.

The recognition is for diversity.

Other northeast Ohio companies on the list are Progressive, 46; Akron Children’s Hospital, 172; the Cleveland Clinic, 200; and Lubrizol, 374.

AKRON CHILDREN’S RANKED: Akron Children’s Hospital has achieved the highest possible ranking on its use of its electronic health record throughout the organization from the nonprofit Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Analytics. The hospital also has been named a recipient of the organization’s Davies Award of Excellence.

It is among 13 percent of outpatient clinics in the U.S. to achieve the designation, which examines health care organizations and how they use technology to support patient care, reduce medication errors, improve operational objectives and achieve a near paperless environment.

The Davies Award recognizes the application of health information and technology to improve clinical care delivery, patient outcomes and population health.

FARM BUREAU OFFERS STEM CAMPS: The Ohio Farm Bureau Foundation is offering four STEM-based camps. The weeklong program will let high school students interact and learn from teachers, scientists and researchers.

Subject areas include food science, precision agriculture, animal science, natural resources, management skills, technology and agricultural business.

The sessions are June 14-19 and 21-26 at Ohio State University, July 5-10 at Central State University and July 12-17 at Ohio State University ATI Campus.

WOMEN IN STEM AT YSU: Michelle Goddard, strategic planner at the Defense Information Systems Agency, will be the keynote speaker at the 23rd annual Edward W. Powers Women in STEM Career Workshop and STEM Lecture Series at Youngstown State University.

The day for young women in grades six to 12 is 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 21 at the Chestnut Room at Kilcawley Center. The lecture is 4 p.m. March 20 at the Ohio Room at Kilcawley.

AKRON CHILDREN’S OPENS NEW PRACTICE: Akron Children’s Hospital will open its newest pediatrics practice Tuesday in East Liverpool.

The system acquired the practice of pediatrician Dr. Marilyn Tiu. The new practice, Akron Children’s Hospital Pediatrics, East Liverpool, will be at the Calcutta Square Building, 15655 state Route 170.

MERCY HEALTH OUTREACH: Mercy Health-Youngstown will host its annual Mercy Health Day on March 14 at Stambaugh Auditorium at Youngstown State University.

The event will have mammograms, PSA blood draws for men, dental cleanings and screenings. Also, adult and child basic CPR classes and the latest Stop the Bleed training will be offered.

The event is 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission and all screenings are free, but registration is required by calling 330-480-6133.

WHITE GLOVE PAYROLL ADDS TO TEAM: Andrea Colaluca, a 2013 graduate of Youngstown State University, has been added to White Glove Payroll.

She will be responsible for handling client accounts, data input and filings and customer service.
