Boardman Park event postponed, rescheduled for Sept. 12
BOARDMAN — The Boardman Park Community Day / Celebrating America’s 250th, originally scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed because of the potential for severe weather.
The event has been rescheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12.
In a press release Friday afternoon, Boardman Park officials announced the change.
“With the forecast of the potential for severe thunderstorms across the region this weekend. Combined with the lingering impacts of the severe windstorm that struck our community on July 5, these conditions present a safety risk for an event expected to welcome thousands of visitors,” the release stated.
“Since the July 5 storm, Boardman Park’s grounds crew has worked with dedication to restore the park by clearing countless downed trees, branches, and storm debris. While significant progress has been made, portions of the park continue to contain leaning trees, damaged limbs, and other storm-related hazards. The forecasted severe weather has the potential to further weaken or dislodge these damaged trees and limbs, creating unsafe conditions for visitors, volunteers, vendors, entertainers and staff.”
The History of Boardman Presentation and guided tours of the Historic Village, including St. James Meeting House and Detchon Museum by the Boardman Historical Society will also be rescheduled to Sept. 12.
“Making the decision to postpone our largest event of the year was incredibly difficult,” said Boardman Park Community Relations Coordinator Mia Albaugh. “However, the safety and wellbeing of our community is our priority. We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we continue recovering from the recent storms while preparing to welcome families back under safer conditions. The good news is that the celebration of community is not canceled — only postponed.”
Boardman Community Day / Celebrating America’s 250th will now take place on Saturday, September 12, offering the community an exciting opportunity to kick off the new school year together with a full day of family fun — ending the night with a fireworks display.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the live entertainment throughout the day.
