Pair to be arraigned in aggravated burglary case
YOUNGSTOWN — Sharay Whitfield, 22, and Resha Graham, 21, are in the Mahoning County jail facing two counts each of aggravated burglary for a May 20 incident in which Graham is accused of pounding on an apartment door on Tyrell Avenue and then rushing into the apartment when the door opened, along with about eight more people.
A Youngstown police report states that officers were called to the apartment at 11:36 p.m. May 20 for a fight. Officers spoke to a woman who said Graham kept pounding on the apartment door. Then, when the person opened the door, Graham and eight to 10 people “pushed into the apartment and started assaulting” the woman and two other people, the report states.
All but one of the suspects were females, the victim said. She told police that she and Graham have been in a dispute over a man they both had dated. Ambulance personnel arrived, taking two of the women to the hospital.
While officers were there, Whitfield approached an officer and said she believed her keys were in the apartment. When asked why her keys were there, she did not answer except to say she dropped them, the report states.
One victim had scratches, and one victim had a lump on her forehead from being punched there by an unknown man, the report states. The victim told police she thinks many of the suspects live in the apartment building.
Two surveillance cameras are in the upstairs area where the confrontation began, the report states.
On Tuesday, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Graham, the report states. On Wednesday, the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force went to the Tyrell apartments and found Graham and took her into custody on the aggravated burglary warrants.
Graham was taken to the Mahoning County jail. Her charges were filed in Youngstown Municipal Court Tuesday, the same day the charges were filed against Whitfield, according to court documents.
If convicted of the two counts of aggravated burglary, Graham and Whitfield could each get about 20 years in prison.
Whitfield and Graham were booked into the county jail Wednesday, according to jail records.
