Concerto winner joins Packard Band for performance Sunday

The winner of the Robert E. Fleming Concerto Competition will play at Sunday’s W.D. Packard Concert Band performance. This year’s recipient is Preston Thigpen, a senior at Howland High School and the son of Brooke and Steven Schubert. Thigpen started taking piano lessons at age 5 on his great-grandfather’s baby grand piano. He studied alto saxophone before switching to bassoon under the guidance of Shawn Reynolds. MetroParks Farm shows off new arrivals

Mill Creek MetroParks will have its annual Farm Animal Baby Shower on Saturday. The family-friendly event gives attendees an opportunity to meet the newest arrivals at the MetroParks Farm, including goats, piglets, calves, chicks, ducklings and more. Visitors also will be able to see mother animals that are expecting. Access to the animal barns is free.
