‘Mary Poppins’ set to open in Ashtabula

13th Street Theatre presents Disney’s “Mary Poppins” for a three-weekend run starting Friday at Ashtabula Arts Center.

The stage production, featuring music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and a book by Julian Fellowes, is based on the 1964 movie of the same name about a nanny with magical powers who is hired by the Banks family and ends up having a profound effect on both children and the grownups around her.

It is directed by Zach Adkins and Kim Godfrey Warren with Debra Fleming as music director. The cast includes Sarah Riley, Loralei Bartunek, Colton Elly and Jeff Staron.

“Mary Poppins’ will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through Jan. 26 at the center, 2928 W. 13th St., Ashtabula. A sensory-friendly performance adapted for audience members on the autism spectrum or with other sensory processing issues and their families is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 16.

Tickets are $19 for adults, $17 for students, senior citizens and military and $15 for children ages 2 to 12 in advance if purchased in advance online at ashtabulaartscenter.org or by calling 440-964-3396. Tickets purchased at the door the day of the performance are $21, $19 and $17.
