Rust Belt opens ‘Miss Tuesday Night’

Rust Belt Theater Company’s original production “Miss Tuesday Night: A Drag Pageant Musical” makes a belated return to the stage this weekend.

Written by Robert Dennick Joki and Josh Taylor, the musical chronicles the competition at “The most popular early-midweek drag queen pageant in the southernmost part of northeast Ohio.”

It made its debut in 2017 and was slated for a return in 2020.

According to Joki, “The last time we tried to stage this was in 2020, and we ended up having to cancel the show due to the Covid pandemic, four days before we were scheduled to open. We ended up live-streaming parts of the show online with about 3/4 of the cast. Four years later, many of the original cast members have returned, and we are very excited to finally offer the full production.”

The show gives viewers a glimpse into the world of small town drag queen pageants. Warring drag families compete for the titular title as contestants struggle to make their drag mothers proud while remaining true to themselves.

The cast includes Diane Marie, Caitlyn Murphy, Sarah Whitlatch, Shelby Gossick, Charity Bauer, Lisa Torrence, Vasi Sfikas, Keith Stepanic, Brooke Jonas, Jennifer Hutton, Joey Shilot, Jessica Patoray and Joki.

It will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through April 27 at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.
