Musical revue explores peaks, pitfalls of dating

Valentine’s Day isn’t hearts and chocolate for everyone.

For the others, there’s “Dating Sucks: The Musical.” Rust Belt Theater Company brings back its musical revue for a two-weekend run starting Friday.

Written by Robert Dennick Joki with orchestrations by Josh Taylor, “Dating Sucks” explores the peaks and pitfalls of modern dating with cringe-worthy real-life dating stories and original songs.

It includes dialogue taken directly from online dating profiles and mobile dating app conversations as well as submissions from the audience. It’s a raunchy multimedia musical intended for adult audiences, and it is updated annually to reflect the current dating climate.

Joki directs and appears in the production. The cast includes Caitlyn Murphy, Sarah Whitlatch, Shelby Gossick, Charity Bauer, Heather Powell, PK Lankford, Lisa Torrence, Rian Davis, Vicci Sfikas, Keith Stepanic and Janelle Yohman.

“Dating Sucks” will be staged at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through Feb. 17 at Club Switch, 221 Belmont Ave., Youngstown. Tickets are $15 and can be reserved by calling 330-507-2358.
