YSO announces 2026-27 season

Tickets and memberships for the 2026-2027 season of the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra go on sale Friday.

The six-concert season advances Music Director Erik Ochsner’s vision of welcoming new audiences to the symphony while continuing to enchant longtime patrons.

The season kicks off Halloween month with “Symphonic Sorcery” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at Stammbaugh Auditorium. Featuring music perfect for October, audiences will embark on a “spooktacular” journey through works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, John Williams and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

For the holiday season, the YSO returns to Powers Auditorium for two special performances featuring the orchestra playing live accompaniment for the film “Home Alone 2” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 22 and 23. The movie was directed by Chris Columbus, who grew up in Champion and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School.

The orchestra returns to Stambaugh to start 2027 with “An American Portrait,” a concert celebrating the American experience through music by Florence Price, Samuel Barber andGeorge Gershwin at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 24.

Love is in the air at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 11, 2027, at Stambaugh Auditorium as the orchestra celebrates Valentine’s Day with the showtune showcase “Almost Like Being In Love.” Featuring vocalists Marcus Goldhaber and Lauren Chapman, the evening will include beloved musical theater favorites from “Brigadoon,” “Anything Goes” and “Guys and Dolls.”

Pianist Jenny Lin joins the orchestra at 7:30 p.m. March 5, 2027, for “Paths Untaken,” performing Philip Glass’ Concerto for Piano No. 2 (“Lewis and Clark”).

The program concludes with the YSO’s premiere performance of Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 3.

The season concludes at 7:30 p.m. May 14, 2027, at Powers with “Inspired By …,” featuring works by Jessie Montgomery, Darius Milhaud and Jean Sibelius. YSO is proud to spotlight principal percussionist Andrew Pongracz as soloist in Milhaud’s Concerto for Percussion, Op. 109.
