Pianists play recitals at Youngstown State

Two guest artists will play piano recitals next week at Youngstown State University.

Nanyi Qiang has established a wide-ranging career as a chamber musician, soloist and pedagogue. As a soloist, Qiang has won numerous competitions internationally. As a chamber musician, he has performed at significant music festivals and with renowned artists. Qiang performed his Carnegie Hall debut recital in 2018 and recorded the album “DUO SHU” with cellist Yi-wen Zhang last year.

A strong advocate of new music and technology, Qiang has been commissioning and performing new music written for piano exclusively. He also serves on the board of directors and performs regularly with “Onethirteen Composers Collective,” a new music organization based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn.

He is an associate professor of piano at Central State University.

For his YSU performance 7:30 p.m. Monday in Bliss Recital Hall, he will perform music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Claude Debussy, Kyong Mee Choi, Francis Poulenc and Franz Liszt. He also will give a presentation at 4 p.m. Monday in Bliss Recital Hall.

Kirill Gliadkovsky will perform music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Muzio Clementi, Nikolai Medtner and Robert Schumann 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Bliss Recital Hall.

Gliadkovsky is professor of piano and director of keyboard studies at Saddleback College, Mission Viejo, Calif. He previously served on the piano faculty at USC and Santa Monica College and served as the head of the piano area at Southern Utah University in Cedar City.

His wife and two daughters perform with him in a family piano ensemble at significant music festivals and concert series.

All three events are free.
