We cannot lose Youngstown State

DEAR EDITOR: Too many people in the Mahoning Valley still don’t know that Vivek Ramaswamy has put forward plans that include closing universities like Youngstown State University. This is not speculation or a passing idea. YSU is on the list. That should alarm every resident of this region. YSU is more than a campus. It supports jobs, drives the local economy and creates opportunity for thousands of families. It also fuels our identity, especially through programs like Youngstown State Penguins football, which bring pride and energy to the Valley. Closing YSU would not just ...

Comstock should not be allowed to run

DEAR EDITOR: With all due respect to print journalism, shouldn’t The Vindicator/Tribune Chronicle be calling for an investigation into the “misapplication of deadly force” mentioned in the last “Sound Off” comment in the Feb.28/March 1 weekend edition? As I interpret the last comment in the “Sound Off” section of the Feb. 28/March 1 weekend edition, attorney David Comstock has involved himself in a cover-up of some sort. Therefore, should Comstock be allowed to run for a judgeship on the 7th District Court of Appeals under such wicked circumstances? JOHN S. ...

No substance from Sen. Bernie Moreno

DEAR EDITOR: What a sham! This is what you receive from Sen. Bernie Moreno if you write to him. It’s the same for ALL contacts I’ve attempted. Don’t waste your time. “Thank you for reaching out to my office and sharing your thoughts. Your feedback is invaluable as we work together to address the issues that matter most to Ohio. We meet with constituents every day in Washington, D.C., and it is the best part of my day. I ran for office because I was tired of career politicians that cared only about getting reelected. I understand I work for you. It is one of the greatest ...

Sound off!

A March 9 Vindicator story noted that for the fourth consecutive year, the number of fatal crashes in Ohio has declined. Speed-related crashes were the highest type in Mahoning County, 3,130 from January 2021 to the present. Ohio should have never changed the speed limit to 70 mph on the highways. People now go 80 mph. No wonder why there are so many crashes. — Canfield The taxes which support the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County are paid by all county residents. Many communities have never had a library, and for others, their once “public” libraries have been ...

There is just so much to complain about with Donald Trump

DEAR EDITOR: After spending a week away, I returned home to a week’s worth of The Vindicator. Taking in several of the political cartoons on the opinion page is truly eye opening. Only The Vindy could bemoan the cost of the space program while Trump spends billions in a “Trumped Up” war. I see that the Easter Bunny is a Republican. No eggs for Democrats. With the current cost of groceries nobody is getting meat with those eggs! But the worst one is the April 1 comic that shows two frogs at a No Kings rally stating the main complaints being men in women’s sports and voter ...

Board of Elections should be located in Youngstown

DEAR EDITOR: The Mahoning County Board of Elections should be near the city center of Youngstown and not on a far side of town nearing any suburbs and not convenient to the freeway. People from all sides of town go to the Board of Elections to register or to vote, and being out of the center of town will cause many an inconvenience. I find it hard to believe there isn’t an empty building centrally located somewhere! PHYLLIS RICCHIUTI Poland
