YOUNGSTOWN — A pair of Youngstown State men’s basketball players hit the transfer portal Thursday.

Luke Chicone announced his intention to transfer, and Owen Long also is set to depart, according to recruiting service VerbalCommits.

Chicone just completed his freshman season, averaging 2.7 points and 2.2 assists across 12.5 minutes per game. The Mentor native boasted an assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.4. He saw regular minutes for the Penguins, aside from when he suffered a hand injury that sidelined him for a bit.

Long, meanwhile, averaged 9.7 minutes per game and scored 2.7 points in those. He transferred into YSU prior to the season from Division II Maryville, where he played two seasons.

Chicone and Long join Garrett Covington in the portal. Covington suffered a season-ending Achilles injury and could have returned for a sixth campaign at YSU, but opted to test the transfer waters instead.
