YOUNGSTOWN — Malia Magestro, Nneka Obiazor and Emma Randall have each signed a National Letter of Intent to spend their academic and basketball futures at Youngstown State University, YSU head women’s basketball coach John Barnes announced on Wednesday.

Magestro is a 5-foot-9 guard from nearby Hermitage, Pa., Randall is a 6-foot guard from Shelby, Ohio, and Obiazor is a 5-foot-10 forward from Eden Prairie, Minn. All three are high school seniors who will have four years of eligibility at Youngstown State upon their arrival for the 2020-21 season.

“This class will bring us much-needed depth both on the perimeter and in the frontcourt,” Barnes said. “I’d like to thank my staff for all their hard work and time to find these players from across the Midwest that will fit in well with our Penguins Basketball family.”

Magestro was first-team honoree Pennsylvania Sports Writers all-state teams at the 1A level as a junior. She ranked second in District 10 in 2018-19 with 28.9 points per game as she led Kennedy Catholic to its ninth straight district title and a Sweet 16 appearance. She was the district’s top scorer as a sophomore with 22 points per game when she was second-team all-state. Magestro was ranked as the sixth-best player in the Pittsburgh area on The Dabbelt Report in 2018-19, and she enters her senior year with 1,501 career points, which is 40 behind Kennedy Catholic’s record.

Obiazor is currently ranked as the No. 6 player in the 2020 class in Minnesota by Prep Girls Hoops. She earned All State Honorable Mention honors at the Class AAA level as a junior when she averaged 16 points and eight rebounds. She was Eden Prairie’s top rebounder and scorer and went on to earn all-conference accolades. A member of the Prep Girls Report 2020 AAU All Star Team, she will be the program’s first player from Minnesota.

Randall led Shelby to a sectional title as a junior when she earned Special Mention All-Ohio honors at the Division II level. Also a First-Team Northwest Ohio District honoree, she averaged 13.7 points in 2018-19. She helped lead Shelby to an undefeated mark and title in the Mid-Ohio Athletic Conference as a first-team all-conference pick. The Whippets are currently ranked fifth in the state as a team by the Ohio Girls Basketball Report.
