HS Capsules: Badger blanks Garfield to advance

Mackie O’Brien scored two goals to lead the Braves to a shutout victory in the sectional finals on Tuesday. Anja Suhar and Addison Thompson both tallied scores as well while Delaney Kolat dished out an assist. Katie Grexa recorded 7 saves in net for the Braves. Badger will play again on October 25 in the District semi-finals.

Leetonia 9, Maplewood 1: Ella Gregorino and Maddy Steiskal both tallied three goals a piece for Leetonia, Madison Gregory added two and Erin Drake finished off the scoring for the Bears in a big win. Gregorino also tallied three assists while Lexi Solomon Hansen also made 7 saves.

Boys Soccer

Niles 2, Canton South 0: Kaleb Krok and Gavin Shura each netted a goal for the Red Dragons as they earned a playoff win over Canton South on Tuesday. Aaron DAvis and Sammy Reigle both tallied assists for Niles as well and Carsen Sharpe made nine saves.

Mineral Ridge 6, Heartland Christian 1: Nate Colburn, Elias Clarke and Landon Pal all scored two goals for the Rams as they cruised to victory on Tuesday. Colburn also tallied two assists in the victory, along with Branden Testa and Clayton Butler made 6 saves in goal.

Louisville 2, Salem 0: The Quakers saw their season come to an end on Tuesday as Louisville scored a goal in each half. Jon Null made 13 saves in the loss.

Volleyball

Salem 3, Struthers 0: Behind 14 digs from Jenna McClish and 8 kills from Zoie Reid, the Quakers blew past the Wildcats Tuesday night in a straight set victory. Winning 25-14, 25-18, 26-24, Salem dominated play all night long. Genna Wulzen tallied a team-high 7 kills for Struthers and Emma Morris had 13 digs.

Howland 3, Brush 0: The Tigers are moving on in the playoffs after beating Brush handedly Tuesday night. Jamie DeSalvo tallied 12 kills and Courtney Clark added 10 and 10 digs. Howland won 25-18, 25-10 and 25-12. Ellie Moore tallied 18 assists in the win as well.

Cleve St. John 3, Chalker 0: The Wildcats dropped three games to St. John on Tuesday but kept each set close, losing by no more than four points. Livia Rhodes led the way with 10 kills while Julia Krukowski tallied 7 and 9 digs. Mia Russomanno also tallied 17 assists and 9 digs.

Tennis

West Branch 4, East Liverpool 1: The Warriors set a new school record with their 16th win of the season on Tuesday as they upended East Liverpool. Morgan Loudon and Kate Slutz completed their perfect season at 2nd doubles with their 18th win of the season. Allison Zion, Liana Gabrelcik and Lily Ann Bonar also picked up wins at first, second and third singles.
