Tuesday highlights

BASEBALL

South Range’s Trey Pancake had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in four runs to help power the Raiders past Struthers, 12-2.

Western Reserve’s Alex Mayorga had three of the Blue Devils’ 15 hits and added four RBIs in a 20-2 victory over Sebring.

Adam Fisher of Champion had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs to help the Golden Flashes earn a key, 8-6, victory over Crestview.

Logan Hoschar of Columbiana struck out 11 and allowed one hit in a 20-1, five-inning victoryo ver Wellsville.

Salem’s Gavin Wilms homered and drove in four to fuel the Quakers over Carrollton, 11-7. WIlms also had two doubles on the day.

Springfield’s Aaron Groner doubled, tripled and homered in the Tigers’ 8-1 victory over Jackson-Milton. He finished with three hits.

SOFTBALL

Hubbard’s Sydney Bowser etched her name into the record books twice Tuesday as she hit three home runs and had nine RBIs for the Eagles in a 15-7 win over Lakeview.

Bowser had three homers, including a grand slam, which put her in a tie for fourth all-time for home runs in a game. Bowser is also tied for 19th all-time in RBIs in a single game, finishing with nine.

Bree Kohler had a fantastic night for South Range going a perfect 5-of-5 from the plate and hitting three home runs in a win for the Raiders over Struthers.

Kohler had an additional triple and finished the afternoon with seven RBIs.

All but two players recorded multiple hits for South Range.

Tuesday highlights

SOFTBALL

Bri Callow struck out 17 and did not issue a walk as McDonald beat Springfield, 8-1, but her shutout bid came up short when opposing pitcher Madison Lesnak hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning. However, Callow also hit a home run and Lucia Wolford tripled and homered to lead the Blue Devils, who improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the MVC-Scarlet.

South Range scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t get one more to tie the game and force extra innings in an 8-7 loss to Poland in a Northeast-8 showdown. Bulldogs pitcher Katie McDonald picked up the win, recording seven strikeouts. South Range’s Bree Kohler also had seven strikeouts. Poland’s Jackie Grisdale knocked in five runs for the Bulldogs. Kohler had two triples for South Range and two RBIs. Reagan Irons and Juli Stachowicz both added two RBIs.

Alaina Francis hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh inning with two outs and two strikes to help lift Cardinal Mooney over Canton Central Catholic, 5-3. Francis also struck out 12 in a complete-game performance.

Ursuline’s Paige Ogden allowed two hits and struck out six in a five-inning, 10-0 shutout of Newton Falls. Ogden also homered and drove in three for the unbeaten Irish (9-0).

Becca Landis struck out nine and tossed a three-hitter, and Ashley Deans drove had four RBIs in the Mustangs’ 18-3, five-inning victory over Lordstown.

Austintown Fitch’s Maddy Taylor socked three doubles and drove in four runs in the Falcons’ 23-8 victory over Howland. Lydia Spalding also had four hits — including two triples. She also earned a victory as the starting pitcher.

Crestview’s Kaedyn Sutton tossed a three-hitter, striking out 12 to help the Rebels win a pitchers’ duel over Brookfield, 3-1.

BASEBALL

Boardman’s Anthony Butto had a game-winning base hit in the bottom of the seventh inning to help the Spartans rally past Salem, 6-5. Boardman trailed 5-3 entering the seventh, but Griffin Widrig tied the game with a two-run double, setting up Butto’s walk-off hit.

Alex Eusebio tossed a one-hit shutout for Columbiana in a 4-0 victory over Struthers. Eusebio struck out eight in the win.

Niles’ Andrew Huffman struck out five and scattered seven hits in a complete-game shutout of Lakeview, 6-0.

Heartland Christian’s Joey Donofrio hit a walk-off base hit for the Lions in a 3-2 victory over Mathews.
