Canfield wins close game; Ursuline knocks off East

¯ CANFIELD 45, WALSH JESUIT 44: CANFIELD — The Cardinals held off a comeback effort from Walsh Jesuit to pick up a nailbiting victory.

Canfield was outscored 19-11 in the fourth quarter, but built up enough of a lead to still get the win.

Grace Mangapora led the team with 17 points and Francesca Ricciardi added 11. Despite only scoring two points, Gabby Demidovich made an impact on defense with 11 rebounds.

¯ URSULINE 44, EAST 38: YOUNGSTOWN — Ursuline upset the Golden Bears, holding off East after a big first quarter to claim a Steel Valley Conference victory.

Anissah Moorman and Cara McNally combined for 29 points, with Moorman scoring 15 and McNally going for 14, including three of the team’s five 3-pointers. They helped push the Irish (7-13, 2-3) to a 14-9 first-quarter lead.

Brianna Thompson (11 points) and Delena Brown (10) led the Golden Bears (12-7, 3-3).

¯ POLAND 60, HUBBARD 20: HUBBARD — Jackie Grisdale scored 13 of her game-high 19 points in a dominant first half for Poland.

The Bulldogs improved to 17-2 and a perfect 13-0 in the Northeast-8 Conference. They rolled to a 38-4 lead by halftime, as 11 players scored in the game for Poland.

Jackie Adler led the Eagles (1-18) with seven points.

¯ STRUTHERS 52, NILES 29: NILES — Struthers rebounded from a slow start and went on a 35-10 run in the second and third quarters to pull away in a NE-8 matchup.

Chloe Neider scored six of her 13 in the second quarter, when the Wildcats (10-8, 8-5) went from trailing, 11-8, to leading 28-17 by halftime. They put the game out of reach with a 15-4 edge in the third quarter. Emma Elia added 10 points for Struthers.

Aneziah Fryer led all scorers with 19, but no one else scored more than six points for Niles (5-15, 4-9).

¯ LIBERTY 65, CAMPBELL 25: LIBERTY — Liberty’s Demi Watson, Delia Watson and Shar’Da Williamson combined for 56 points in an All-American Conference Blue Tier victory over the Red Devils.

The Leopards (17-3, 9-1) led 16-11 after one quarter and outscored Campbell, 35-11, over the next two frames to put the game out of reach. Shar’Da Williamson scored a game-high 22 for Liberty, while Delia Watson added 20, and Demi Watson contributed 14.

India Armour-Clark powered Campbell with 14.

¯ WESTERN RESERVE 51, WATERLOO 23: ATWATER — Western Reserve held the Vikings to just two second-quarter points as they quickly pulled away in a MVAC tilt.

The Blue Devils (16-3, 12-1) never allowed Waterloo to score more than eight points in a quarter. Danielle Vuletich scored a team-high 14 points, and Olivia Pater was close behind with 12 for Western Reserve, which led 23-10 at halftime.

Brooke Waldeck scored 10 for the Vikings.

¯ JACKSON-MILTON 53, LOWELLVILLE 21: NORTH JACKSON — Grace McDevitt, Abby Spalding and Alyssa Deak combined for 47 of the Blue Jays’ points in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference matchup.

Spalding scored 10 of her game-high 18 in the first half, when Jackson-MIlton (10-7, 9-4) took a 29-11 lead. McDevitt, who registered a double-double with 10 rebounds, added nine of her 17 in the first two quarters. Deak put in 12 points for the Blue Jays.

Samantha Kelly paced Lowellville (6-13, 2-10) with seven points.

¯ MINERAL RIDGE 36, SPRINGFIELD 31 (OT): MINERAL RIDGE — Without their leading scorer, the Rams made an overtime push to get a league win over Springfield.

Alexa Harkins wasn’t out on the court, but her teammates filled her shoes with Fran Kesner leading the way at 16 points. Candice Miller scored 14.

Leading for Springfield was Jacey Mullen.

¯ McDONALD 59, SEBRING 27: SEBRING — McDonald outscored Sebring 39-6 in the middle two quarters on the way to clinching a tie for the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference title. The Blue Devils (16-1, 13-0 MVAC) led 16-10 after one quarter before blowing the game open with an 18-2 second quarter.

Maddy Howard scored 13 points, Sophia Costantino added 12 and Molly Howard had 11 for McDonald.

¯ LEETONIA 62, SOUTHERN 21: SALINEVILLE — The Bears hit the road to put on a scoring clining, picking up a huge win over Southern.

Leetonia converted on 24 of its field goals compared to Southern’s five.

Anna Buffone led the Bears scoring 15 points.

Leetonia held the Indians scoreless in the first quarter and led 28-5 at halftime.
